The Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) is a Liberia non-governmental organization founded in 2002. SDI is working to transform and improve natural resource related decision making processes in Liberia. SDI focuses on resource governance, corruption, community benefits and public participation. In 2006 SDI received the Goldman Environmental Prize for outstanding environmental achievements in Africa.
The organization actively participates in the national and international discussions on forests and climate change. Besides forestry SDI plays an active role in the "Mine Watch Initiative", that enhances the public understanding of social, environmental and development issues associated with mining.

A Liberia in which natural resource management is guided by the principles of sustainability and good governance and benefits all Liberians.



Sustainable Development Institute (Friends of the Earth Liberia) is the Liberian charter of Friends of the Earth International. Friends of the Earth is the world's largest grassroots environmental network, uniting 77 national member groups and some 5,000 local activist groups on every continent. With over 2 million members and supporters around the world, we campaign on today's most urgent environmental and social issues. We challenge the current model of economic and corporate globalization, and promote solutions that will help to create environmentally sustainable and socially just societies.
